Ohio State University will be using a “special, independent board working group” to investigate the domestic abuse allegations of the wife of a former assistant football coach, the school announced on Thursday afternoon. Ryan Day, who has been the team’s offensive coordinator, will be acting head football coach while Meyer is on leave.
College football writer Brett McMurphy reported on Wednesday that Meyer’s wife, Shelley, knew that Smith had abused his wife, Courtney, providing text messages as proof.
No matter what is proven about these allegations against the former wide receiver coach at Ohio State, this much is beyond doubt: Urban Meyer did not commit a crime, he did not witness, nor did he cover up any crimes. Smith played for Meyer at Bowling Green and began his coaching career under Meyer in Florida. Courtney Smith also provided threatening texts she claims came from her ex-husband, former assistant Zach Smith.
Urban Meyer’s days leading the Buckeyes could be numbered.
Zach Smith was sacked on July 23 after he was served a civil protection order on behalf of Courtney Smith.
SC football coach Will Muschamp followed Urban Meyer at Florida, and by multiple media accounts had to fix a Gators program that had been left in a tough spot.
Trump imposes sanctions on Turkish officials over detained American pastorUS State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert has also called the detention “unjust”, adding, “Turkey knows our position well”. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Ms Sanders said: “We’ve seen no evidence that Pastor Brunson has done anything wrong”.
Shelley: “I am with you!”
“All the [coaches’] wives knew”, Courtney Smith told Brett McMurphy, a college football reporter laid off by ESPN previous year who posted the story on his Facebook page.
After firing Smith last week, Meyer told reporters that he had been aware of the alleged 2009 incident and that he and his wife, Shelley, had advised Zach and Courtney to go to counseling at the time.
At Big Ten media days last week, Meyer said he knew of the incident in 2009 and that he and Shelley Meyer addressed it with the Smiths.
From making sure every minute of practice is accounted for to fretting over what players are putting in their bodies at the dining hall, no detail is too small for a coach’s prying eyes. First I heard about that was last night.
